Article 8 – Employee Board, Quarters and Other Maintenance

SECTION 8-1. DEFINITIONS

For purposes of this Article, the following words and phrases shall have the meanings described in this section unless the context clearly indicates otherwise:

  1. “Quarters” or “Quarters only” means living quarters for an employee or an employee and his/her family located on the grounds of an institution, including provision for laundering of linens, utilities, care of grounds, maintenance of building and household furnishings as designated by the department. Services of a housekeeper, maid, or other domestic help are not included except in a dormitory-type accommodation;
  2. “Uniform laundry” means the laundering of any wearing apparel that is furnished by the County or is required by the County to be worn in the performance of an employee’s duties;
  3. “Personal laundry” means all laundry not included in subsections a and b of this section.

SECTION 8-2. DEDUCTIONS FOR MAINTENANCE

Upon the approval of the Board of Supervisors, persons in the County service may receive quarters in lieu of any part of cash salary, unless otherwise provided by the Board. The value of such quarters shall be deducted from cash salary in accordance with the following schedule per biweekly pay period:

SECTION 8-3. EMPLOYEE CAFETERIAS - COUNTY HOSPITALS

The County hospitals shall operate “A-la Carte” or “Cash Cafeterias” for the convenience of employees. This means that meals and food items provided at a central dining room on the grounds of Highland General and Fairmont Hospitals will be individually priced and paid for at the time of purchase and are no longer deducted from cash salary.

SECTION 8-4. SAME: OTHER PROVISIONS

Notwithstanding any of the limitations set forth in this article, the Board of Supervisors may provide for furnishing board and quarters, or quarters only, in addition to the salary for the positions of employees performing specific duties at the request of the Department Head when, in his/her opinion, it is in the interest of the County to do so.

SECTION 8-5. LAUNDRY SERVICE

Uniforms furnished by the County and required to be worn in the performance of duty, shall be laundered by the County.
